Happy World Oceans Day

Happy World Oceans Day!

From Ámaris' blog on WordPress:

Last week, I decided not to post anything here, because of #blackouttuesday and because of the #theshowmustbepaused movement in the music industry. Instead, I educated myself and shared resources in my stories.

Not only this week, but this year was fuelled by protests, and demands for more social justice, and voices growing louder on how we treat this world, other people, the planet. 2020 has been rough so far, fuelled by Covid-19, racism, inequality, climate change, and has raised questions on how we treat this planet.

2020 has shown us what inequality, and the attitude that we have towards our environment can do to our planet. White supremacy appears to have its roots in the same acceptance as gender inequality, or the way we treat the environment, and I feel that Joaquin Phoenix summarised this in a meaningful way in his almost historic Oscars speech:

“I think, whether we’re talking about gender inequality or racism or queer rights or indigenous rights or animal rights, we’re talking about the fight against injustice.

We’re talking about the fight against the belief that one nation, one people, one race, one gender, one species, has the right to dominate, use and control another with impunity.” – Joaquin Phoenix

But it also showed us positive things. It showed us what we can accomplish, together, when we work together. It showed us that polluted oceans can become clean again, that we can overcome social injustice, that we can fight a virus. Together, we can #protectourhome.

Today, on World Oceans Day, I want to share some resources on the ocean, how we can protect it, and what you can do.
